Welcome to the "Power of Alpha" website and its ultimate product - the "70 MeV" mass quantum. Alpha is the universal fine structure constant whose dimensionless value 1/137 has intrigued and puzzled scientists for the past century.

In quantum electrodynamics (QED) alpha generates the interactions between electrons and photons, as is well known. What is generally unknown is that in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) alpha generates the interactions between electrons and all of the other massive elementary particles. This web site is dedicated to spreading the message of the universal Power of Alpha.

As an example of the power of alpha, see how we can take the electron -- the lightest particle -- and the top quark -- the heaviest particle, and relate their masses in powers of alpha.
